Reem Al Falasi: Start implementing strategy and plan immediately

Al Reem Abdullah Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, praised the leadership's keenness on motherhood and childhood and the support it gives them in order to promote them and fully secure their rights.

The Cabinet's adoption of the National Strategy for Motherhood and Childhood and the Strategic Plan for the Promotion of the Rights of Children with Disabilities 2017-2021 marked the important step that will enable the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, which prepared the strategy and plan, to start implementation immediately in cooperation with the bodies set by the Council of Ministers.

Instructions

Al-Falasi confirmed that the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood prepared the strategic plan on the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, the Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation and the President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and the United Nations Children's Fund Arabian Gulf.

The plan was guided by the principles of human rights and gender equality enshrined in both the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These conventions emphasized the responsibility of Governments to ensure that all children, regardless of gender and disability, enjoyed their rights without discrimination of any kind .

This strategic plan has been prepared based on the findings, gaps and recommendations of the analytical study on the situation of children with disabilities, which was implemented between December 2015 and March 2016. Consultations and coordination with relevant national and federal institutions and bodies have also been undertaken.

Child Rights

Al-Falasi pointed out that the completion of the strategy and plan came after the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood consulted with the concerned authorities, namely the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the Health Authority of Dubai, the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi, the State Minister for Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, the Minister of State for Public Education, the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, and the Ministry of Education.
