The Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood organized a workshop under the slogan (Childhood-Friendly Media)





In cooperation with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab states represented by the Social Affairs Sector and the Arab Council for Childhood and Development, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood organized a workshop to spread awareness of children’s rights under the slogan (Childhood-friendly media). This workshop comes in implementation of the recommendations of the Arab Childhood Committee in its 25th session, chaired by the United Arab Emirates.
The workshop aims to provide participants with background knowledge on children’s rights and enable them to harness different media channels to protect and care for children’s rights, and to include this in messages and media programs to raise the level of awareness of community members and decision-makers about childhood issues, their rights, and protection. In addition to providing media professionals with a theoretical background on the relevant international and regional conventions regarding children’s rights, focusing on the Convention on the Rights of the Child as the basic reference for work, and linking all of this to the media.
The workshop also aims to educate media professionals about the effects of the Corona pandemic on children’s rights issues in an psychological and social manner, and to familiarize them with the reality and institutional structures working in the field of childhood at the national level to protect children and to invest in modern media technologies in informing public opinion about children’s rights and the ability to choose the appropriate media material for children. Additionally, motivating media professionals and building their enthusiasm towards educating and empowering themselves on children’s rights issues.
The League of Arab states grants this award annually at the Arab level to encourage institutions concerned with family issues in the Arab region to enhance awareness of the role of the family and encourage institutions concerned with childhood issues and individuals to promote children’s rights by establishing a culture of respect for children’s rights.
Her Excellency Ambassador Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh, Head of the Social Affairs Sector - Assistant Secretary-General - League of Arab states, honored the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and the late journalist Ibrahim Al-Abed, former Director-General of the National Media Council, the winners of the Family-Friendly Institutions Award for the year 2020 in appreciation of the distinguished efforts, initiatives undertaking, and important contributions in this field in the Arab region. The child protection center of the Ministry of Interior and Majid TV won the Family-Friendly Institutions Award for the year 2021, in appreciation of the efforts of both sides for their outstanding initiatives and programs presented to the family and children.
On this occasion, Her Excellency Rym bint Abdulla Al Falasy, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, said that the Council's winning of the Family-Friendly Institutions Award came to confirm that the UAE, with the support of its wise leadership of state institutions, seeks to promote a culture of creativity and excellence, which contributed to accomplishing achievements and successes not only at the local level. But on the Arab and global levels. As she expressed her pride in this victory and gifted it to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, noting that this achievement came with her unlimited support and Her Highness's constant and diligent follow-up to the Council's plans and initiatives and harnessing all efforts and capabilities to achieve the vision and goals.
